Okay, all of you art journalers and journalers-to-be! I’ve got a giveaway for you, the result of my having purchased (unknowingly) two copies of Gwen Diehn’s The Complete Decorated Journal: A Compendium of Journaling Techniques. (Click on this link, and you can look inside the book.) As wonderful as this book is, I need only one copy.

The Completed Decorated Journal is actually two-books-in-one: The Decorated Journal and The Decorated Page, plus bonus content. It is divided up into sections that tell you all about journaling materials and how to use them, how art journalists perceive the world (from Leonardo da Vinci to the Australian Aboriginal culture), 10 different approaches to journaling content, and alternative types of journals, such as the pamphlet and double pamphlet, altered book, blank book, and box book. Throughout the book you’ll discover interesting artist profiles. Filled with 240 pages of art journaling inspiration, this is one book you’ll want on your shelf.

If you’re interested in being entered in a random drawing for Gwen Diehn’s The Complete Decorated Journal, tell me about one of your favorite journaling techniques in the comments below. Or, if you are just getting started, tell me what you hope art journaling will do for you. Make sure you include your e-mail so that I can get in touch with you if you’re the lucky recipient of this book. I will announce the winner next week Friday, April 26.

  1. What a fabulous giveaway! I’ve been wanting to learn how to art journal after seeing everything that Deb has been doing plus you’re fabulous journals too! I clicked on the link and saw so many techniques that make my head spin but yet I want to learn! Thank you for this opportunity! I’m crossing my fingers! 🙂

  2. It looks like a great book but I do not need to pick up another hobby right now! My man is already going to be shocked when he sees how much stuff I bring to Hawaii for the summer.

  3. That’s a gigantic book! Wow. OK, one favorite technique? It has to be stenciling with punchinella on the backgrounds of my paper. (I do love Washi tape too, and try to use it often). {:-Deb

  5. woohoo for giveaways!!!!
My new favorite way to make pages is like a scrapbook / art journal type combo.. Making a standard layout then adding Golden’s medium Gel and glitter and it also comes in an iridescent, sometimes when used over photos it makes them look a cracked.. You can also use sharpies glitter paint pens on them..

LOVE your blog Judy.. I have been hanging out here for a week, I have just left it open in a window so when I have a min. I can read another post…

Gwen’s books look so inspiring! She has a blog too: http://real-life-journals.blogspot.com/. Her current posts have some interesting pages–more simple than some others.
Art journaling inspires me and I hope to explore it. I have scrapbooked, drawing on the pages instead of using stickers or other embellishments. I enjoy making cards. I also made an art calendar last October–inspired by Deb Baroff. (I wish I did this every month!) Oh yes, and I plan to explore making ATCs or ACEOs.
I believe journaling artistically draws out one’s inner creative being. And for us artsy people, this is as necessary as breathing!
Thanks for your generous hostessing of this giveaway. I’m going to tell a few of my friends.

  7. I have not “Art Journaled” before! But I love art. I enjoy Water Coloring… I enjoy work by Beatrix Potter, Edith Holden, and Marjolein Bastin. Marjolein has some pretty art calendars too… I’d love to create some journals like that! 🙂
Thanks Judy for the fun drawing!!

I am sure there is alot to learn about journaling and I need to learn! I enjoy adding photos and must- have pics of items I have on my bucket list. I really need help in starting a journal about my boyfriend who died in January. Very interesting thoughts that I need to put on paper. I am also working on self care including eating better, exercising and losing weight so I need to put my cravings to work on paper! Thanks for including me.
